NEW Roxor Shocks. Make This Your FIRST Upgrade!

The Roxor is unlike any work or sport utility vehicle on the market. It is a hybrid that splits the categories of Jeeps and UTVs - with the best features of both!

My Roxor now has superior tires to any light-duty UTV, plus a spare. These tires will last 50,000 miles - at least 10 times more than any UTV!

This is the level of performance and dependability that I REQUIRE for my overland "dream trips" of 1,000 miles and more!

The larger tires give me traction in mud, sand, and rocks. The higher volume also allows me to "air down" for even better traction and a softer ride on the more demanding trails. In total, making the upgrade to more expensive wheels and tires (and gaining a spare tire) is a cost-effective addition.

The Roxor does NOT have 10 electronic drive modes, Bluetooth text messaging, or heated seats. Even a WINDSHIELD is optional! The Roxor shares more in common with a tractor than many side-by-sides (at DOUBLE the price!)

One of these no-nonsense features is "old school" straight axles and leaf spring suspension. This is nearly indestructible, proven over generations, across the world.

I admit that there are industrial Roxor owners who use the vehicles in mines. There are agricultural owners who use the vehicles as a substitute for tractors. But my guess is that 80% of owners enjoy their Roxor as a rugged, capable, and dependable UTV for recreation. Many - like me - live in areas where you can drive your UTV on town roads and in the city!

The more "sedate" the setting, the less you appreciate the extra heavy-duty suspension on the Roxor. When not loaded down with feed bags or firewood, the Roxor rides rough! The heavy stack of springs at each corner transmit every crack in the pavement.

Thankfully - this is an EASY fix!

Your Roxor is sold with Gabriel shocks, built for Mahindra in India. These shocks are SO soft that they aren't even usable on a go cart! Consequently, they do NOTHING to soften the ride of the stiff leaf springs.

You can't experience how soft these springs are until you remove them. Unbolt the shocks and they literally fall off - there is no tension. You can compress and extend these shocks easily by hand. I estimate there is less than 5 pounds of gas charge per shock.

The stock shocks on the Roxor are purely ornamental!

These replacement shocks (made in Japan) were an upgrade for the Nissan Frontier pickup. They offer a 25% increase in damping control over the stock Nissan shocks. As I mentioned above, I estimate these replacement shocks provide a 190% increase in dampening over the TRASH Roxor shocks!!!

Again, there are commercial, industrial, and agricultural applications where a rough ride is not a concern. But for MOST of us, increased comfort add miles to the day and versatility to the Roxor over varied roads and trails.

Now it is important to remember that shock absorbers are designed to "tame" the suspension springs - and NOT to add to the load rating. On some other 4x4s, coil-over shocks are designed to increase body lift. The Roxor also can be modified with lift kits that require longer shocks.

The KYB shocks are also not "high-performance" racing shocks. My Pro-4X Nissan Frontier includes an upgraded suspension with Bilstein shocks - but my truck weighs almost double that of the Roxor! Similar Bilstein shocks can be installed on the Roxor if you are into rock crawling - see Diesel Freak for options. The current price as of this article is $579.00 for a set of four shocks.

I installed four KYB shocks on my 2026 Roxor for only $271.80.

You don't need a lift. You don't need to jack up the Roxor or remove the tires! You don't need an impact wrench - just a socket wrench is fine.

Unbolt the old shocks and they fall off. The new shocks are compressed with a nylon banding - and are an inch or so short of the lower mounting stud. If the banding is broken or the shock is longer, you can still compress it from underneath.

Spray a little silicone on the rubber bushings and bolt the new shock on loosely on the top stud. Then - with the lower bushing lined up with the stud, cut the banding and as the shock slowly expands, press it onto the lower stud.

Now tighten the top and bottom nuts until the rubber bushing is expanded to the diameter of the washer. Repeat on the other three wheels!

The entire replacement takes less than one hour - probably closer to only 30 minutes!

The previous articles described my plans for the Roxor as an overlanding vehicle. I NEED a more rugged UTV than any side-by-side on the market. I need a dependable, unbreakable suspension. BUT - I also want comfort on 200-mile days on the trail.
